Autumn arrives in Moominvalley

The Moomin’s Day celebration brings the Nordic autumn glowing in nature’s gorgeous ochre tones, as the Moomins prepare for their winter hibernation. This year’s mug completes the series of Moomin’s Day mugs depicting Moominvalley’s four seasons and will be remembered as Tove Slotte’s last Moomin mug design for Moomin Arabia.

A gorgeous autumn-themed mug that will be remembered

In this year's Moomin’s Day mug illustration, the Moomins are preparing for their annual winter hibernation before all the leaves fall and the magical first snow falls. The family needs a lot of hay to sleep in and pine needles to fill up their stomachs before the long rest. The low-lying Nordic sun and nature dressed in autumn colour everything in warm ochre tones.

The design is based on Tove Jansson’s 1955 comic strip, Moomin’s Winter Follies.

A tribute to Tove Slotte

The mug is the final Moomin Arabia design by beloved illustrator Tove Slotte.

A tribute to Tove Slotte

The mug is a tribute to Tove Slotte, who made a distinguished thirty-year career as the Moomin mug illustrator before retiring. The mug will be remembered as Slotte’s last Moomin mug design. Slotte designed a total of 113 Moomin mugs for Arabia.

The autumn-themed mug completes the series of Moomin’s Day mugs that depict the seasons of Moominvalley. Illustrator Tove Slotte began the series in 2018 with a summer theme, followed by winter (2021) and spring (2024).

As in previous years, the Moomin’s Day mug will be available in a beautiful gift box decorated with the mug’s illustration.

In 2018, celebrating Tove Jansson's birthday and Moomin's Day, 9th of August, Arabia released their first limited edition Moomin's Day speciality mug.

On Moomin's Day 2021, Moomin Arabia released a speciality mug portraying the first day of spring. Moomintroll and Moominmamma sit on a bridge railing, awaiting Snufkin's return.

In the mug celebrating Moomin's Day, the first day of spring has arrived, and Snufkin returns to Moominvalley – just as he promised Moomintroll last autumn. The sun-kissed nature is waking up together with the Moomins.
